A group of yuppie New York City friends meet together to bid their friend, Rob, who is about to leave the country for a new job. The party includes: Rob's brother, Jason, longtime crush Beth, and Hud, Rob's silly friend who documents the night, and Marlena, another friend on whom Hud develops a crush. In the middle of the party, after Beth stormed out in a fight, a monster attacks New York City. While trying to leave the city with the millions of New Yorkers forced to evacuate, the friends' journey is ruined by the monster's destruction of the Brooklyn Bridge. On their way to find another route out of the city, the friends get sidetracked and are compelled to find the injured Beth. All the while, the monster continues massacring America's largest city... Statue of Liberty included.

When news of this antique spreads a rapidly dying businessman (Claudio Brook) and his nephew (Ron Perlman) seek it out. They pursue the artifact relentlessly and try to attain it any cost, including the lives of all involved. Whoever holds this artifact has immense power and will do anything to preserve it.

Gotham City needs a superhero. There are corrupt police officers, the mob overrunning the city, and worst of all, The Joker (Heath Ledger). Gotham's new District Attorney, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) helps put many of these criminals away, but Gotham just worsens as the chaos inflicted by the Joker worsens. So, Bruce Wayne/Batman (Christian Bale) comes to save the day, but it is not as easy as it seems. Batman will not reveal who he is, and the Joker will keep killing until he does. A love triangle of sorts also forms between Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent, and Dent's girlfriend, Rachel. This sets up one of the most personal attacks by the Joker, and pushes Batman to the brink of insanity.

Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen) is the evil prison director who is determined to profit from the televised mayhem. One of the most popular drivers is the masked Frankenstein. Frankenstein has died, but the warden wants Jensen to pose as Frankenstein for one last deadly race. She promises that Jensen will be freed if he wins the race. Jensen is aided in this cause by his head mechanic “Coach” (Ian McShane), who helps to build the armed and armored killing machine of a vehicle.

After the voice helps him escape FBI custody, Jerry and Rachel, who is being blackmailed by threats against her son, are led against their will to Washington, D. C to complete a mysterious assignment.

Tim (Ben Stiller) and Nick (Jack Black) are best friends and neighbors, and they are also co-workers at a boring and meaningless job at 3M company. Nick is always trying to think up crazy ideas to invent, when one day he hits upon the big idea, a spray that vaporizes dog poop. Who wouldn't want it right? Tim is too level-headed to have any part in the idea, but when Nick is successful in creating his invention his riches quickly escalate to monumental proportions, and Tim's envy escalates monumentally as well. Tryin to cope with his envy he meets a mysterious man in a bar, calling himself J-Man (Christopher Walken) he starts to advise Tim on what to do. Eventually even Tim's wife Debbie (Rachel Weisz) is angry at him for not going in on the venture. With both J-Man and his wife, and himself pushing him along he gets in to some crazy situations with his friend. Will his envy be both of their undoing?
